http://themittani.com/features/tmc-community-larger-and-stronger
As TMC grows, so does our community of commenters, forumgoers, and fans. With growth, though, comes the necessity for a little order.
Ed. note: As far as I can tell, the community isn't growing. It's a shitty niche EVE Online website which also tries desperately (and fails) to get its hooks into other games, but all it produces on most other games besides freeware shit like League of Legends and Mechwarrior Online are simply retreads of press releases.
COMMENT ETIQUETTE
The main point of interaction between writers and readers on TMC is the comments section in each article. We want every reader with thoughts on whatever they read to drop those thoughts into the comments section! That said, a few types of comments will earn you deletions and/or bans.
Bigoted Language: This should be a no brainer, but we still see people using bigoted insults, slurs, gaybashing, and other uncomfortable language in the comments and usernames. We don't care if you swear - drop F-bombs all over the place, whatever - but when you start crossing from generic swears into specific, bigoted language, you're going to get in trouble.
Good luck. When most of your users use "Jew" completely unironically as a verb for any profit-making activity in EVE Online (even using it in real life...I guess no Jews go to Reykjavik) you've got a fucking full time job on your hands
Attacking The Site: This is wholly tiresome. None of the core editorial staff that makes everyday decisions on which news pieces to run are in a major corporation. We don't actively exclude games or events from coverage. There is not some big conspiracy out to sweep the fight you just did under the rug. If you feel an interesting story has been missed, for any reason, feel free to drop us a line through the contact form with information on what was passed over and why you think it's noteworthy. Complaining about how you think the site is a goon conspiracy, or how there's a "drop in quality" because we ran a piece you don't like, is a fast track to commenting probation. Criticism of a piece or writer is fine, as long as it's civil.
Ed. note: Most of the comments I've seen ragging on the site are when they simply republish press releases put out by the company with zero analysis or commentary. They did posts every time Star Citizen broke a kickstarter milestone well into the 35 million and only dropped it when Star Citizen missed an important ship date for the dogfighting alpha.
Grammar Complaints: We miss the odd spelling mistake here and there. Being snotty about it is rude and not appreciated. If you want to point it out, just say so; don't act petulant because you found a minor mistake.
General Awful Behavior: We realize that it's tough to not be completely socially inept, but please try. You don't have to treat people with true respect, but don't be a total idiot either. This is what the majority of bans/deletions come from; people just being assholes.
Lowtax rule
Sockpuppeting: You will be banned for sockpuppeting, full stop. If you resort to making multiple accounts, or posting anonymously under different names, just to try and overwhelm those who disagree with you, you aren't welcome in our comments section.
We heavily encourage all readers to spend the minimal time necessary to make a Disqus profile. We love regulars - assuming they contribute good stuff - and having a Disqus profile instead of constantly posting anonymously means we can get to know you better.
Yeah this is like half of their users. Expect comments totals to go down.
They also added in a bit about their forums, which are basically FYAD Lite for EVE Online divas and queens. |
