I think I've finally quit. Last outing I discovered the secret to striking it rich (rich enough for someone like me anyway) with minimal risk or effort.
You can use probes to scan for hidden stuff in systems and they finally made probe scanning a lot less of a hassle so it's easy to quickly scan a system and move on. I discovered that there's one kind of hidden NPC spawn in hi-sec space (Guristas scout outpost?) with the chance of a crazy payout for not much work. I could log on, do 5 minutes of scanning a few systems, then if nothing was found just log out. When a scout outpost popped up it took maybe 20 minutes to do.
They have a chance of dropping crazy loot. You become conditioned after a while to expect nothing but crap loot from NPCs so when I opened the loot window and saw 500,000,000.00 in total value my eyes popped and in the second I blanked out there must have been a John Ritter triple take in there somewhere.
To put that number in perspective, typical safe hi security space grinding like mining or missions will get you around 10-20 million an hour. The most risky and work heavy hi-sec grinding, max level incursions, will top out at 100 mil an hour but that requires a ton of group organization with catassers so fuck that. So here's me flying solo getting 500 mil with half an hour of hi-sec grinding.
Up until that point I had never had more than 300 mil at a time. Two more scout outposts later and I was finally a billionaire. I bought the latest bling ship (tier 3 strategic cruisers) and spent a couple hours blinging it out with bling options. Up until that point, the most expensive ship I'd ever owned was ~150 million and I freaked when I lost it. After that I never flew ships over 30 mil. Now here I was dropping 500 mil on a ship that would elicit a shrug if it blew up.
My subscription ran out and I was happy walking away, knowing that the thrill of hitting that slot machine jackpot would never be equaled. I had "won". |
