I don't mean cult like drinks goat's blood at an altar or whatever the fuck, but the same way Crossfit is a cult that encourages you to do insane shit to yourself. (I'm sure Crossfit is great in small to moderate doses around real trainers with a degree in kinesiology to their name)
A lot of people don't "play" the game but talk about the game. EVE's bloggers are probably right when they say it's the most talked about MMO on the internet. Because that's all they fucking talk about. There are probably no less than 8 podcasts dedicated to this MMO that run weekly. There are several very large and notorious websites, (Eve-24, TheMittani.com, CrossingZebras, etc) that are all devoted to basically being glorified amateur journalists. And God help you if you question these insufferable nerds about them being journalists. Those few capable of banging out a sentence on a keyboard without saying "fag", "jew", "nigger", etc. rise to the top while the rest of the shit-for-brains friends they have all populate the comments sections. People are celebrities based on being fucking FYAD rejects. People get a hard-on for the game to pursue feuds they've had going on for six or seven years. They they spend over 1500$ a year to fly to Reykjavik for four days and drink and piss and vomit all over themselves and eat overpriced food.
Alex Gianturco (the Mittani) is the worst of the worst. If you want proof, look at his LinkedIn page. He's like a walking posterchild for what's gone terribly wrong with the world in this decade. I have no doubt his website garners him a small profit. EVE players are great cash-cows and as long as this shambling corpse of a game continues on they will continue to be, but I doubt he's ever going to get anywhere beyond EVE in terms of his readership. |
