Canvas by Game recommendation 04/12/2025, 8:56am PDT There's a stack of 100 transparent vinyl cards or cels with scoring symbols on the bottom 1/4th of the cel and a nice little figure or artistic element in the top 3/4ths. Each player has three plastic sleeves which are your canvases. You take turns buying individual cels from the marketplace row and when you have five cels you must assemble and score a painting on your next turn. A finished painting is a plastic sleeve with three cels stacked in it. But! Most cels are going to have overlapping symbols so the stack order is crucial. There's five symbols and five color sectors. Most cards will have 3 colors present with 1-2 symbols per color. Overlapping the cels will conceal or expose various sectors. Do you cover the blue sector on card A with the blue on card C? Should card B go above or below card A? Depends on whether you want to expose the symbols of the red sector or the yellow sector on A... Game ends when everyone has made three paintings. Scoring varies from game to game. There's a stack of 20 scoring cards, pick three during setup. They're like, 2 VP if a finished painting has two sun symbols on adjacent scoring sectors. 3 VP if your painting has one of every color sector. 2 VP if you have no cross-hatch symbols exposed... Plays in 30m. Costs $30. Has a solid two player mode. No nerd shit. No violence. High quality components. Aesthetically pleasant. Unique mechanics. The scoring is bounded where a savvy player can maximize their score with clever planning and a casual noob can layer shit together just because it's pretty. The savvy player will get 35 points and the noob will get 27 points so skill determines the winner but losers aren't humiliated.
