Just played this by Nick Spaz 05/04/2026, 3:28am PDT Definite thumbs up and a must buy if you're looking for a quick, easy to teach 1 on 1 game that will get a lot of interested people thanks to the LotR theme being tied in so well. I don't know if you've ever played 7 Wonders. I thought it was neat how they took all the victory point scoring stuff and, without changing it, translated it perfectly into LotR flavor. Green science cards Get sets (one of each type) or get matches. Races were the perfect fit. Red military cards Doesn't matter how many you have, you just need to have at least 1 more than the other guy. Map armies make it less abstract. Blue victory point cards Just a sheer burst of raw victory points. Bursts of speed from the hobbits or Nazgul is perfect. We also had the same gripe with only one reference sheet. "What the fuck does this do?" on every new symbol from the 30+ race symbols. The race token and card symbols are also on the same double sided sheet. How much more could it have possibly cost to print one more sheet for this 2 player game? I'd say this is something that happens when your test group is the same small group of employees and zero outside first timers, but how the fuck was this issue not learned from 7 Wonders Duel? My one gameplay complaint is the race token bonuses. The person memorizing them has an advantage ("Wait, so forts can be destroyed?"), and some of them are so much stronger that it can tilt a game into RNG luck. The low price of only $25 is also a plus.
