Is an ASP collapsable baton pretty much a stupid thing to go get in the meantime? If I do get a house I imagine I'll have a shotgun around just like my old man did, but the place I'm in right now is pretty small. The things that a baton has going for it is that they are cheap ($68 for 26") and (I'm guessing) they don't take an inordinate amount of skill or training to operate. (As opposed to a sword or something.) But for all I know they are ridiculed as a personal defense weapon by those with their asses in the know. I'm curious as to what the bunch of you think.

Self-Defense, Armed and Unarmed.

Paraphrasing from memory: a handgun takes the prize, and blunt instruments -- bat, maglite, baton, the bigger the better -- run a distant second. Every other option is ridiculed to one degree or another.
