I didn't think SS0 was a bad game, but neither was it a great game. That's because it tries to be both an arcadey action game and a space sim simultaneously, so what we're left with was merely "okay."
I actually liked the game's conceit that a snub fighter could knock the turrets off a capital ship easily, but to actually destroy the entire hull in a reasonable amount of time you needed heavier weapons like torpedoes or capital ship beams.
I don't think the game was "stupidly hard," I actually think they set it just right for a player with an overpowered ship, you just had to exploit the robot suit to its fullest. (eg. switch to robot for instant sharp turns in dogfights then switch back to fighter to shoot the enemies down and fill the rage bar.) If you suck at games like a professional game reviewer, or were a disgruntled former team member already primed to hate the game, I could see how it can turn into an instant controller-throwing WAGE-inducer. |
