But I think what you really want is Auto Assult. It's kind of not at all gay.
This game has gotten universally horrible to meh reviews. Haven't heard a single positive thing about it. Also, it is an MMORPG that no one is playing.
Except me and Bro. We like it. It is fun. Reviewers think games like Xenosaga are fun.
You could also pick up Chrono Cross for PS1 - green label copies are very cheap, so it's a nice throwaway choice. Get ready for some GIANT GIANT pixels. The battle system in Chrono Cross is one of Square's worthier efforts, and you get access to a giant pile of playable teammates including slutty scientists and kawaii martians and androgynous rock stars. If you found Chrono Trigger impenetrably faggy, the good news is that Chrono Cross is impenetrably faggy in a completely different way. A lot of people really hated CC for not being a proper sequel to CT.
CC's combat seemed fun until you realized there really wasn't much to it; the enemies would randomly attack and break up your movies with no way to determine when it'd happen which kind of defeated any strategy.
There are no characters. You go around collecting 70+ pokemon in character's clothing. Zero character development and the main character is a mute which stopped being charming around the mid 90s.
Replaces all the cool original shit in CT with boring crap. Want to fly around in a time machine? HAVE FUN WITH YOUR CANOE!
Worst ending ever.
THE MAIN CHARACTER IS A MUTE. I forgot to mention this feature. He doesn't whine about anything and HE'S NOT A FUCKING ORPHAN. Also, you rock half the game as the cat man with the best attack ever: Feral Cats.
I can't believe you think the lack of character development is a minus rather than a plus. It's awesome. As long as you skip Kit, you'll never have a single whiner or orphan in your party - just groovy stereotypes that you can switch out as you please without losing substantial battle power (your entire team of doods level together no matter who you're using in your party - another sage innovation.)
Ending sucks? Which one?
RE: strategy - mang, you got no toleration for the actual strategy, which is designing and rationing your magic grid. Games don't suck just because you're bad at them.
If you're committed to choking down a Final Fantasy game, 12 and 9 are best bets. I know everyone is all BUT 7 IS THE ULTIMATE except I found 7 totally unplayable. 9 is very soothing.
9 started off promising by being the first FF in six years to not have a brooding emo protagonist, then took the typical Jap RPG route of introducing more and more plot threads until it collapsed into a directionless mess. The game that swore everyone off the active time battle system once and for all.
Oh stop it. You're bitching about such things being flaws in this game, but you bemoan their absence in CT. FF9 has neither a gaily complicated nor a retardedly simple plot. It hits a nice sweet spot and you're just being fussy if you say anything else. The only serious negative about FF9 is that you have to watch Celtic rat dancing at one point.
By the by, not only do you not have to deal with brooding Emo protagonist, your Princess Love Interest is an eminently useful character (for a change.) |
