Wait just a goddam minute by laudablepuss 02/06/2003, 7:53pm PST
I told Barbie that I was going to shut up now, but I lied.

If you and I were face to face you would be unable to bear my anger. If confronted with me in person you would shrink back from my raised voice and shaking hands, it wouldn't matter if you were a foot taller than me and ten times as strong. Sleep peacefully, you fucking faggot, the young men of the US military will protect you from your imagined dangers in Iraq, and I will protect you from my imagined dangers here. And you, a comfortable non-participant in both the war you espouse and the one you ignore, should never dare to make presumptions regarding my extremism ever again.

So you don't actually respond to anything or even tell me something offhand like "I've already covered this elsewhere" (which you have, kinda, except you seem to reject with little or no reason what everyone was saying) or "I'm tired of answering the same questions", you create strawman faux dialogues, and now you EXPLODE in anger? Isn't that against the rules somehow? It certainly seems unfair to use your personal heart rate and blood pressure to make me feel bad about thinking what I think and why I think it. And I just love the last line. Very dramatic.

Despite my UN-worthy efforts to take it to you on the peacemaking tip, you seem desperate to convince me. You want a squabble of information? I have been studying under the former State Department coordinator for Middle East analysis and policy for the last two years, I have put countless issues of the very latest Middle East affairs journals under my brainhood, I have been neck deep in the newspapers. Every Tuesday night I'm in a three-hour meeting on this very fucking topic and we all start off, the whole first hour, rattling off current developments in the Middle East - most especially Iraq, these last few weeks. Your evidence is all of "potentials" and "possibles" and items which might conceivably look like weapons. My evidence is based not on whatever I saw on MSNBC last night but the devoted research of days and weeks and months and years.

Awesome. No really. So tell me, does everyone in your class feel the way you do? What did you think of the little drama at the UN yesterday? Is all of that evidence so circumstantial etc. etc.? But in any event, I don't think your position is unassailable just because you thought about it longer and yell louder. Especially when you seem to cling to illogic . . . (see below)

HOWEVER DESPITE WHAT YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE FUCKING LONGS TO BELIEVE I continue to think that Iraq does not particularly concern me one way or another. What CONTINUES TO CONCERN ME IS YOUR FUCKING ATTITUDE ABOUT IT - THAT is the disease whose root I am seeking, it is the sickness I fear, it is what has crawled up my ass and died. You can't wave your fucking hands and produce some new reason to go to war each time the old one is shouted down. You can't defend the actions of an administration which has recklessly endangered the international standing of the United States. And you can't keep refusing to ask why - that's the most dangerous, that's horrible.

Iraq does not concern you. You said in another thread that you thought Iraq was way bigger "threat" but you put threat in quotes like that, so I guess you meant a way bigger "thing I'm not concerned about". It might've been in that same thread that you said "I don't deny that Iraq is dangerous". But not really dangerous? You can't understand why it's suddenly important to do something about it? Jesus Christ, Zseni! And you're mad at me for being thickheaded?

Also, what the hell did you mean by that shit about my "disease"? Is that the purpose of this whole exercise? You think I'm just an idiot who doesn't attend class taught by a former State Department coordinator and you're just taking my pulse and trying to diagnose my "sickness"? Has anyone ever mentioned that you have an oversized ego and are incredibly condescending?

I won't stop asking why. And I will not - I WILL NOT - allow my countrymen to die in battle without seeking the foundation of that battle and holding its orchestrators responsible for their actions. I will not permit persuasion to take the place of analysis. I will protect and preserve the political tradition I have been instructed in and have come, grudgingly and painfully, to admire. This means I will fight you every fucking step of the way in your apparent quest to rationalize the future war into the ether for my benefit. You and Dio and whoever the fuck else can call me a hysterical dreadlocked hippy moron and that's fucking dandy, because when it comes right down to it you are only talking.

Glad to hear it. I wouldn't want you to Binro out on us, not that I think you would. Nevertheless, you certainly seem extremely agitated. Maybe you should take your own advice?
