Thank you, speciality of the house.
Would you or would you not sign up for the armed forces and serve in a war against Iraq?
I was considering it. I considered last time, as well, but I was like a year too young. Now I'm a few too old, at least for the main branches. And I'm not 110% keen on killing strangers personally, but I would consider it me doing my civic and national duty if that was my choice. You could do yours, and write congress, y'know.
Oh please, like I haven't done that already? My House and Senate reps (a particularly scathing one at the time of the passage of the Homeland Security Bill, too), the White House, the state congress, the governor, plus newspapers. But all those letters are focused far more on "why are you saying it the way you are?" rather than "why are we going to war at all?" There are lots of politically safe answers to the latter question, but, judging from my impressive lack of replies (and I have a very fond form-letter correspondence with all of my representatives, usually) regarding the former I can only assume there are few or none. Which, you know, is why I keep asking it.
Did you see the CNN poll attached to that Mandela article? Go read the poll question, it's a nice fat obvious example of the kind of thing I'm so seriously pissed off about.

Remember: Iraq is very dangerous and threatening to our national security.
As silly as it seems to you, that happens to be how many of us feel, including myself. I posted about the Pentagon stating a proposed change in policy in regards to battlefield burials and cremation because of toxic contamination. I don't think they'd do this for public spin, given the delicate support we have at the moment. At least they are worried about bio/chem-warefare-and now that you mention it, maybe it's for the better that I didn't sign up. I'm too pretty for a closed casket, much less a motherfucking viking funeral at a sea of sand.
It doesn't seem at all silly to me. I can certainly see where the pro-war people are coming from, I just don't agree with them. But if laudablepuss really believes what he is saying then I feel, as you do, that he has the obligation to act on that feeling above and beyond naysaying me for holding a contrary position. If he really believes Iraq is a danger to this country, I expect him to put his motherfucking money where his mouth is and put his own life on the line to protect the women, children, and elderly of the United States of America.
But I don't think he believes in the war that much. I think he's only willing to let other people die for it. I think he's a coward and I despise him for it. |
