78. Pinball Illusions (1995, Amiga) by Ice Cream Jonsey Yesterday, 9:33am PDT 78. Pinball Illusions Creator: Digital Illusions CE AB Genre: Pinball Year: 1995 Platforms: Amiga, Amiga 32, DOS. Seems to have been developed originally on Amiga with a simultaneous 1995 launch. Mobygames link Available through: Amiga Vision, eXoDOS We are getting to the end of the games that are computer games, but simulating other things. The state of the industry for pinball is possibly healthier than it has ever been, while it may never shed its reputation of being slightly "uncool", it was really difficult to get smooth-scrolling pinball going on home computers. The Atari 2600 "Video Pinball" is a nice attempt but pinball games require the monitor to be longer than it is wide, it will always require that. Pinball Construction Set gets around that by just simply not using half of the screen for gameplay. Enter the Pinball Dreams/Fantasies/Illisions line. I'm putting Pinball Illusions here because it offered up to four tables and they are all very recognizable as pinball games - you have ramps, , bumpers, drains and flippers that look like actual flippers, 256 colors and 1990s Amiga/Sound Blaster music that, well, you sort of had to be there to know what a new world it was. The smooth nature of the ball - if this series wasn't first, they were best. It was mind-blowing to see in the wild on Amigas when it came out, to me, a DOS boy. Amiga Vision is the best way to play Amiga games these days and the eXoDOS version somehow has the screen setup vertically so you can see the entire game at once. I need to submit this, let me do a quick follow-up on that mode after.
